I am certified as a Clinical Trauma Professional and trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). These techniques are trauma-focused and are aimed at helping people to process through traumatic events they have experienced in their lives.
EMDR and ART can also help to begin the process of unlearning “mistaken belief” systems that we all develop in childhood. These belief systems, such as “I should be perfect” or “I am not good enough” may be keeping us stuck in our lives today.
EMDR and ART use “bilateral stimulation” (i.e., back-and-forth eye movements or the use of a hand-held device that pulsates back-and-forth in each hand). The process of bilateral stimulation in the EMDR or ART protocols can help people to see their situations and themselves more objectively, which can allow for detachment from emotional responses they are experiencing from trauma or in everyday situations.
